About Kathryn

I grew up in Blackpool.

Not a place you'd typically associate with film., but it was full of stories: in the people, the weather, the things that happened and were never spoken about.

I left for London at 19 on a full scholarship to drama school. I spent years learning the craft of acting, working in TV, building a career in front of the camera.

And then I started to feel like I had things to say that I couldn't as an actor alone.

The stories I wanted to tell were the ones that didn't get told. Domestic violence. Sexual violence. Poverty. Community. The things that happen in ordinary lives that the mainstream rarely bothers with.

I founded House of Tales to tell those stories. Not because they're dark, though sometimes they are, but because they're true. And truth, in the right hands, is the most powerful thing film can offer.

I make films for the people who have lived these stories. And for the people who haven't, who might, through watching, understand them a little better.

That's the whole point.
